First Walk on the Beach

An afternoon walk on the beach in the sunshine is a special treat for mountain folk who still have vivid memories of last week’s cold wind and snow.  Hearing that another blizzard will move into the NC mountains tonight makes the experience even sweeter, and we hardly notice the cool breeze that chills this hungry gull searching the shallows for dinner.

Truth be told, it’s cold here too.  Afternoon temperatures in the 50s combined with a 15 mph wind will chill even the hardiest outdoors person, and only the recent memories of blizzard conditions in the NC mountains can make us think we enjoy this outing.  A few hundred yards along the beach the cold wind grabs our attention and sends us indoors through the lobby of a beach hotel, then back to the warmth of our home.

Everything’s relative, so “they” say, and we found that old maxim to be true about the temperature of the chilly wind on the beach!
